The foreshadowing and characterisation for Batman in Knight is amazing, part 2 Posted: 06 Nov 2020 04:39 PM PST I made a post before about Batman's characterisation in Knight but I had to do it again after playing the Penguin Side mission and Robin subplot. Batman in the movie studios had constant flashbacks to what happened to Jason in the movie studios whole being berated by Joker for what happened; Joker is in his subconscious by the way, so he knows what's going on; he knows Batman feels guilty for what happened, and he's taking advantage of it. When Robin figures out Batman was the last patient for the disease, he tries to lock him in the cage. Joker gives Batman that memory again. The one time where Batman failed, and he blames himself for it. He doesn't want it to happen again. He locks Robin into the cell he was supposed to be in out of fear of him dying like Jason did. This part was brilliantly written and directed; the game leading you on into thinking Batman's genuinely giving up, only to remember what happened to Jason and suddenly snap back into reality as everything around him materialises and he sees Tim. It was cruel, awful and selfish, but it was human; Batman is scared. He loves his allies but he doesn't want them to be hurt, so he unintentionally fucks them over by trying to help them in the process. It's such a humanising characteristic for him, and it fits in perfectly. Same reason he wanted to save Talia in Arkham City, even when Protocol 10 was happening. He was scared of losing a loved one, an ally, so much that it becomes detrimental to everyone around him. Especially with what happens later on with Robin getting captured, which really fucks Bruce up because he PUT Robin in that situation. Now, the Penguin Side mission. Batman doesn't want Nightwing to help because again, he's afraid. And his fears come to life when Nightwing is captured by Penguin and his gang. And he blames himself for it; by Joker's word. "I know what you're thinking and you're right, it IS your fault!" When Batman rescues Nightwing, he knows what's coming. He finally gets sincere and tells Nightwing he's proud of him and to protect Blüdhaven. Batman also tells him this is the last time they meet. The reason Batman thinks this is quite vague, but... When we consider what happened tonight. With Barbara, Tim and Gordon... Batman gave in to his fear. He didn't want to lose his allies. The reason he gave up as Batman was "This is the only way to protect them." I love Batman in this game. [link] [comments] | ||
