Just completed Arkham city for the very first time last night. Holy shit what an ending

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 01:54 AM PDT

When the front door of Arkham city opens and Batman is carrying joker in his arms and Gordon asks 'what happened in there batman' and the missed phone call from joker in the ending credits. Sent chills down my spine.

Lore question: Is Edward Nigma smarter than Bruce?

    Posted: 02 Oct 2020 03:27 AM PDT

I've seen it be claimed that the riddler in the Arkham games is smarter than Batman. Is this true? If you take riddlers debilitating mental illness and massive ego away would he be able to outwit the Batman on a regular basis? Keep in mind I'm talking about arkhamverse batman/riddler, not any other depictions of the characters. Is the Riddler truly smarter?

Why I think Batman: Arkham Knight has the best story and interpretation of Batman in the series (and why I disagree with a lot of the complaints towards it)

    Posted: 01 Oct 2020 02:22 PM PDT

Aight, so I'm just making this post because I'm seeing a lot of hate towards the story, and I'm feeling insecure because of it so I need an outlet to vent my feelings and feel justified and not stupid at all for thinking this game had a good story lol.

This is not meant to be an attack for anyone who doesn't like it. If you don't like it, that's fine! :D (u/bruhman347, keep doing what you're doing man, love you)

Let's start because I want to keep this concise unlike my past posts about the game lol.

Ok, Batman. I fucking love his characterisation here.

He's shown to be more human than other representations than him (possibly less than DCAU Batman) and he's shown to be hilariously competent but flawed at the same time.

In an attempt to protect his allies, he ends up only hurting them further; he lost Barbara (at least he thought he did), Jim Gordon and Robin, because he was afraid. When he lost Barbara, he fell onto his knees and sobbed thinking that it was his fault she (at the time anyway) died. He lost Jim Gordon because he was afraid that Gordon wouldn't trust him if he knew Barbara was working for him. He lost Tim because he was afraid Tim would die like Jason. Batman's distrust of his allies, his fear of losing them actively hurt him here and they get hurt in the process. And he saw this with Jason. Jason was his greatest failure, the person who helped influence and instigate Batman's biggest fear. He didn't accept any of his allies help, never reached out a helping hand to them out of fear, but when he truly saw the fruit of his failures in Jason, he turned away from it. He offered Jason a chance to fix what happened, offered him help. He accepted his allies and tried to fix his mistakes. Which is what got him saved in the end. (He still had his fear of losing his allies nonetheless, which is why he still left Tim at the movie studio.)

Nevermind the Joker, Batman slowly becoming more scared of turning into him, scared of the Joker overtaking him... But he finally realised what could defeat the Joker. Forgetting him. Making sure that HE knows he isn't in control and that it's Bruce Wayne, the BATMAN, who's in control.

Batman overcoming his fears, realising that Gotham needed a new Batman (that being... Still him.... But he's scarier this time!) And realising that he hurts his allies due to his mistrust is perfect characterisation and it's an incredibly satisfying payoff to this series of games.

now, I thought Scarecrow was a great villain; he was what Hugo Strange should've been. Actually exploit Batman's fears (losing his allies yadayadayada you heard this song and dance from me before, DO shit throughout the game instead of being vague (Cloudburst, Barbara, Tim, Ace Chemicals, Gordon, dude got shit done here). The guy who played him did an amazing job of making him a cold and calculating phycologist who knew how to break someone. He played into Batman's arc excellently and I loved him.

The Arkham Knight? Plot twist was obvious but fuck it, I loved it. Him realising that Batman cared for him was a great moment and had a tremendous payoff. I also liked his schtick of knowing Batman's every move. Again, played into Batman's arc excellently and the theme as well, he did his job perfectly.

Now, I could go on but this game had beautiful themes, character arcs and payoffs unmatched by most superhero media (let alone video games).

I disagree with some of the problems people have with this game because it just either ignores what the game set up or just isn't true.

For one, the plot twist. Yes it was obvious, but it played into the themes and story perfectly; and there's a million other things in the game as well besides it, it's such a small thing to judge the entire story on when the other aspects of it were great.

The Joker blood? Listen, I ain't getting into this but if anyone has any questions on this, I'll be free to answer.

    Anyway that's it bye

I have been playing the Arkham series since 2012 and I love it to death. I have probably played them all 20 times. I just want to know why Gotham Knights is not looked highly upon. I agree I am not a fan of the hp bar beat them up style but it is a Batman game which I think we all should appreciate. I see myself having fun with it and i am exited for it. Just curious and want to hear others opinions.
