My thoughts after 100%-ing the three main games

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 08:56 PM PST

    Proof here!

So I want to talk about the different games, and how easy they are to 100%, so that players thinking about accomplishing the feat know what they're in for.

Starting with Arkham Asylum, this game, for the most part, isn't too hard to complete. None of the main story (barring Poison Ivy on hard) is particularly difficult, and while some of the challenge maps are quite hard (combat extreme), they're not so impossibly hard that you'll need 100 tries or so. You don't need the DLC to 100%, but the GOTY comes with it, and I'm not sure if you can buy the basic version anymore

    Pros:

    • All in all, it's a really fun game
    • It's the shortest of the lot
    • You only need 1 playthrough (but playing it on hard first time may make take the fun away)
    • Only 16 challenge maps

    Cons:

    • Combat and Stealth are both quite slow, so much so that I got frustrated about the speed
    • Combat Extreme maps are a large step up in difficulty, requiring you to play absolutely perfectly
    • If you want 100%, you will need to complete 100% of the game (barring DLC challenge maps)

    Tips:

    • Play this game first; the combat and stealth is basic, and it will feel doubly slow after playing Knight (and City to an extent)
    • It's also the least complicated game, another reason for playing it first
    • Make sure to take breathers inbetween the Combat Extreme maps, you'll rage quit otherwise. I did it by completing one before bed for three nights while playing City, as those were the last things needed for 100%

Arkham City, often called the best game in the series, and I can see why. I also see, however, the absolutely insurmountable task of the Challenge Maps. Each one needs to be done once for each character (4 times), then once again for the campaigns (4 more times), plus extreme versions for basic and campaign (8 times), plus half of them have Stealth/Combat Expert/Master campaigns (1 more time on average), plus the Robin and Nightwing DLC maps (basic and campaign for both characters, with two maps each), means you must complete 128 3-Star challenges. You'll need both Robin's and Nightwing's story-pack DLCs, but the GOTYE comes with both

    128 CHALLENGES!!!

Good lord it was exhausting. You also need to complete the game 100% twice (but only once for the Riddler Challenges)

    Pros:

    • The game is even better than Asylum
    • The different characters make the gameplay more interesting
    • The game isn't too long if you rush through it; I completed New Game + in about 10 hours
    • None of the challenges are "impossible", but they're hard enough that you will need a guide for 100%, just for some of the harder Predator challenges

    Cons:

    • 128 CHALLENGES!!!!
    • Some of the sidequests are very hard to find (but are easy to complete) without a guide
    • In an opposite twist from Asylum, the Predator challenges are now much harder, and they're also quite a bit harder
    • 128 BLOOMIN CHALLENGES!!! EACH MAP, 16 TIMES!!!!

    Tips:

    • Please, for the love of all that is holy, play the challenge maps as soon as you unlock them! If you wait until you've finished everything else until you try them, you will lose your sanity!
    • Don't let Challenge Maps pile up. I know you want to complete the next segment before doing them, but no, you will have accrued more challenge maps by then, and even three maps will require up to 48 different challenges
    • Don't give up, else you'll lose steam and never get that 100%!

Arkham Knight is quite a wonderful refresher after City. Fast combat and stealth, and more ways to take down enemies than I can count. While there are quite a lot of Challenge maps (more than City, if not counting Extreme maps, which don't appear in Knight thankfully), they are not required for 100%. You need to complete 7 or so 3-star challenges with each character, but there are enough easy combat ones that only three or four predator maps are required (for separate achievements). You will need to 100% New Game + though (barring Riddler Challenges). You will need most of the DLCs like character story-packs, Season of Infamy, Bat-mobile-packs, and some Challenge-map packs, but you might not need all of the DLCs, but I'm not sure which, if any, aren't needed

    Pros:

    • This game is fun, fast, and really just a blast to play
    • The story is also fun, and while it's longer than City, it's easy enough to get through quickly
    • The game takes a lot less time to 100% because you don't need to 100% all challenge maps

    Cons:

    • Some of the harder challenge map-specific achievements (Requiem for a Killer, Eternal, What the Butler Saw) are hard-ish, but if you've completed the other games, your skills should be good enough that you won't need more than 10-25 tries for each
    • Completing 7 maps with 7 different characters (plus Batman's base-game challenges as well) is kind of a drag, but the combat is fun and quick enough that it shouldn't take too long
    • Bat-mobile maps, while visually pleasing, are boring after having to play them with all the Bat-mobiles. Luckily, you don't need to do every map to 100%, but you will need to do a good ~75%

    Tips:

    • Not really any tips necessary, the game is easy enough, and the challenge maps are straight forward enough if only doing Combat Challenges
    • Save this game for last, else the other games will feel unreasonably slow

    Final Thoughts:

These games are good, so make sure to have fun with them. If you're close to rage quiting, play a different game, come back tomorrow, you'll be better then.

Can't wait to 100% the next Arkham game!

I always considered the Arkham series to be a specifically joker related series.

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 10:23 PM PST

Like the title said I've never understood why everyone hates the reuse of the joker. After playing City I always just assumed the Arkham series was like a Batman V joker type thing and the series would end after knight lol.

Batman The World's greatest detective... Or something.

Just finished Arkham Knight, and the last Joker scene is... Phenomenal.

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 07:12 PM PST

That's it, that's pretty Much all I wanted to say. I was playing the game and, for me, the story was definitely not as good as Arkham City & Arkham Asylum. But this scene, it was just so damn good. You were really feeling like you were in the Joker's head. So I just wanted to say thank you to Rocksteady for their amazing work!

I've noticed that it's 81 days from September 23rd (the date teases were put on their Instagram) to December 13th (the game awards). The teases were put up on batman day marking 80 years Of Batman. I think we'll get a tease the day before the game awards and then a trailer at the vga themselves. Also considering its been 52 days since the teases it would make sense if this was the strategy they were going for.

I hope Arkham Legacy will have Nightwing be the main character and then have Batman show up later on in the game.

    Arkham Unhinged

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 08:01 PM PST

Are the tie in comics or Arkham City any good? I have Arkham: Unhinged Vol. 1 that I never really got around to reading, I was thinking about collecting the rest since I've recently gotten into collecting Batman stuff

Are they worth my time or should I just focus on building the rest of my collection? I just bought The Killing Joke and Batman: Year One and that's all the Batman comics I own

I don’t hate origins, but the more I play it the more its flaws come out. Nice deathstroke tho.
