(THEORY) Clayface Is The Arkham Knight.

    Posted: 04 Aug 2021 07:06 PM PDT

At the end of Arkham City, we see Clayface fall into the Lazarus Pit. He obviously isn't dead as Batman doesn't kill and Karlo literally falls into a pit that can revive the dead. Which means Clayface is definitely still alive. So my theory is that Clayface was actually the true identity of The Arkham Knight. The reveal of Jason Todd was disappointing. It felt forced and had no setup from any previous games. Clayface, however, appeared in the Asylum (disguising as personal allies/friends of Batman btw). He was a very important character in Arkham City. He worked with Joker to trick Batman after all. Clayface was an established character in the series, whereas Jason was not.

Joker tortured Jason, in the time between Arkham Origins and Asylum. And learned a lot of information about him and the Bat Family. This is how he knows Barbara is Batgirl, knows about Commissioner Gordon's ties with Batman, knows about Alfred Pennyworth and so on. I believe Joker knew everything about the Bat Family during Asylum and City, all except Batman's true identity. Joker wanted to learn Batman's identity in a meaningful way, in his eyes. So that brings me on to:

    JOKER'S BIG PLAN

By the end of Arkham City, we know Clayface had been impersonating Joker throughout the main story. I believe the only times we're ever in contact with the real Joker were when he poisoned Batman, the phone calls/ audio tapes in the character menu and at the end where he dies. The rest were all Clayface. Joker was hiding in the shadows directing Clayface's every action, like a film. When Clayface is defeated and Joker dies, we and Batman are led to believe that was the end of Joker's elaborate scheme. Batman and Gotham are cured from Joker's diseased blood. But oh no. I think there is so much more left to discuss. In Batman: Arkham Knight, we learn that five patients, infected by Joker's blood, were left untreated. Joker's blood was transforming their physiology as it had traces of Titan which did the same thing in Arkham Asylum. Batman was one of these five. Since he has the Titan cure running through his blood, he doesn't physically change like the others. He is affected by Joker's blood mentally. We see that Joker's blood can cause Batman to hallucinate in Arkham Knight, and even back in Arkham City. My theory is that Joker knew this. He captured many doctors from around Gotham and tortured them for information about his disease. This is when he learned that his blood (infected or not) would latch itself to another humans mind, allowing him to live inside a person's head. So Joker sends his blood throughout Gotham and poisons Batman. He knows he will live on inside Batman regardless of a cure or not. In Joker's mind, he'll be able to live even after death. Although, this plan may have changed after Talia offered him immortality via the Lazarus Pit. To Joker, immortality was far better than any cure. So he captured Talia. She told him the Pit was beneath The Monarch Theatre. Joker lured Batman to the Theatre were Clayface would reveal himself and kill Batman while Joker entered the Pit. Things didn't go his way and he got himself killed. But do notice that he smiles just as he dies. He remembers his blood is inside Batman's body. He isn't truly dead. So where does Clayface come in? After being defeated by Batman, Karlo was submerged in the Lazarus Pit. His morphing abilities may have been enhanced greatly by the restorative effects of the Pit. This means he could truly become another human being, with bones, blood and actual cells. This is when, in my theory, Clayface devised a plan to continue his "role of a lifetime". Clayface found Jason Todd and promised him revenge on Batman. How could Clayface know about Jason relationship with Batman, you might ask? Well, like the Arkham games love to do, it all circles back to the Joker. During their alliance in Arkham City, Joker told Clayface all the secrets he learned from torturing Todd. Everything he knew about the Bat Family, he passed on to Basil Karlo. The Joker is such a master strategist, he ensured that if he died, someone could finish his megalomaniacal plans. After all, he didn't have much confidence in Harley. He tied her up at the Steel Mill, so she wasn't in the way of his plan. So Clayface gathered lots of information about Batman from Jason, became the Arkham Knight, forged an alliance with Scarecrow and would reveal himself as Todd to Batman. However, Karlo manipulated Jason Todd and framed him as the Arkham Knight. Todd was furious and went after Scarecrow. This is why he saves Bruce at the end of Batman: Arkham Knight.

    I thought it was obvious

    Posted: 05 Aug 2021 02:44 AM PDT

Not trying to be mean at all but I thought it was extremely obvious about the main menu secret that was recently 'discovered' in Arkham City, the 'secret' where different villains appear on the screen after a while. To me that's like if tomorrow someone posted a screenshot of minecraft's main menu and said "did you know that underneath the minecraft title there is usually a funny sentence written in yellow" I'm seriously not trying to sound like a douche or anything but I genuinely think that the entire community is just trolling people like me
