    With Anthem effectively being shut down yesterday and Avengers struggling on player count, Gotham Knights has many pitfalls to avoid...

    For those unaware, EA announced yesterday that Anthem's 2.0 update that had been in the work for over a year was cancelled yesterday

    At the same time, Marvel's Avengers has seen its player count degrade to an average of just over 400 players, with lows of barely 200 players, according to Steam charts.

    Both of these games show the clear issue with big publishers creating "Games as a Service" style products that launch broken, with no roadmap and buckets of empty promises.

    Gotham Knights has only had a reveal trailer so far but considering the promise/potential of these 2 IPs and how they are now barely able to support themselves, do we think WB games can actually pull it out of the bag?

    I've briefly played Avengers and the gameplay is so mundane because they had to make each character able to move through every level and work in co-op. My fear is (based on the first trailer) Gotham Knights is going the same way.

    It also has boss battles where just hit a damage-sponge until their health reaches zero, with little-to-no tactics. Again, similar to the Mr Freeze boss battle shown.

    I do want this game to do well, but there are almost zero GaaS that have been true success stories (No Man's Sky doesn't count due to the nature of the game and the fact it is widely considered a 1-in-a-million turnaround).

    Open to comments/other opinions but it feels like Gotham Knights is pursuing a model that dooms most (if not all) games that go after it...
