Batman Arkham Fans Explaining Batman Arkham

    Posted: 01 May 2021 03:09 AM PDT

The details in Arkham Knight are actually insane, part two.

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 09:31 AM PDT

I found something else!! While you're busy chasing after the Jokers in Panessa Studios, if Christina manages to scratch Robin, he actually has the marks on his face for the rest of the game and in his showcase. I managed to counter her in my Knightmare run and he doesn't have the cuts on his face.

I'm so sorry, I've had this game for three years and it's only now I'm noticing stuff like this.

A question for modders/pc owners of Arkham Knight

Are Slade and Firefly's faces modeled under their masks in Arkham Knight?

(i know this is actually a pretty dumb question but i've been curious about it for awhile)

Defending Origins from some common criticisms.

    Posted: 30 Apr 2021 04:07 PM PDT

This isn't meant to invalidate, or disrespect anyone, or even change anyone's mind, just how I think about some criticisms levied towards my favourite Arkham game.

    1. "The game didn't innovate, it's a reskin of Arkham City" While it is true that the jump from City to Origins is nowhere near the same that City was from Asylum, I don't think this is entirely true. 2 new gadgets, 2 new enemy types, a map twice as big as City's, new batsuits, and overall even if the core gameplay is largely the same, the little tweaks in addition to putting it in a completely different narrative context I feel justifies its existence as the next installment. With Asylum, it was obvious how the next game could make it bigger, more open, more complex, etc. but with City, all they could do is refine it, which is exactly what Rocksteady did, only they did it for 5 years.

    2. "The game's marketing sets up Black Mask as the main villain but it's Joker" I honestly don't get how this is a criticism. It's called a plot-twist, obviously they're not gonna completely spoil it in the trailers? Also marketing is not even up to the developers/writers, it's not their choice, therefore it's hardly a flaw in the game. You don't have to watch trailers, teasers, posters, etc., they're completely complementary.

    3. "It's another Joker story" I don't think that's a problem, considering Origins delved into Joker's character and his dynamic with Batman way more than Asylum and City combined. Sure, it sounds tiring that they use the same main villain for the third time on paper, but when the execution is so much better than the first two times, I really can't help but forgive that.

    4. Bugs Welp, all I can say to that is I never encountered any game breaking bugs. I played the game like 3-4 times on the Xbox 360 and once on Xbox One backwards compatibility, never had any serious issues, guess I just got lucky.

    5. "The city feels empty" I honestly think it's supposed to feel that way. I mean think about it, it's Christmas eve, there's just been a huge prison break at the start of the night, it's a brutal snow storm and it's the middle of the night. The game gives every justification possible and it's totally believable that this city would be void of civilians and happenings. It also fits thematically, after all, you're playing a game about a man who's completely alone on Christmas. That's the point of Batman, while everyone is safe and warm surrounded by their families at home, Batman is out there battling criminals in his cold, dark loneliness, not to mention it plays into the narrative of the game with Batman's arc being about finding a way to let go of his compulsory solitude, and playing in an open world that's filled with nothing but snow, dark and criminals but is otherwise dead enhances the game's themes. The world's emptiness is perfect for this game, this story, even if it isn't as "fun" to play in as City or Knight.

Some criticisms I agree with: Shock gloves do make the combat less engaging, some of the assassins are definitely wasted (even though not to the extent that some people bring that flaw), and while the side missions have enjoyable and interesting dialogue (especially Enigma who by far has the most interesting interactions with Batman in the series) they are generally decent at best besides a few.
