    Freeze's motivations in Arkham City...

    Posted: 06 May 2020 10:52 AM PDT

I've been replaying Arkham City, and I never realised until now how confusing Mr Freeze's motivations are in the game. It's confusing why he helps to make the cure for Batman/Joker, why he destroys one vial, why he asks Batman to save Nora in exchange for the cure (knowing Batman may die before he accomplishes this) and then proceeds to fight him with the intention of killing him, only to then flip back and be on Batman's side.

I assume it goes like this?

    • Joker kidnaps Nora (somehow) and blackmails Freeze into developing a cure. Freeze obliges, but is captured by Penguin.
    • Batman finds Freeze and asks for his help in defeating the Freeze Gun Penguin has taken. He denies to help, as this would be telling Batman the secret to his weapon. Batman says that if he doesn't tell him, he won't help Freeze find his suit (leveraging the fact that Freeze is weak and won't be able to survive long without it). Batman pulls Freeze's nitrogen pod from his chest, threatening him, and Freeze tells Batman the override code is in the suit.
    • Batman defeats Penguin. Freeze, now in his suit again, continues to help Batman with the search for a cure. It lacks a vital component, however, and Freeze offers no help until Batman states he can use Ra's Al Ghul's blood.
    • Freeze leaves the museum and returns to the GCPD lab. Presumably, he thinks Batman might die searching for Ra's ("I doubted you would actually return"). Batman gives Freeze the blood sample, Freeze takes it, creates two vials of the cure, and formulates a plan. Batman won't order him around again and neither will Joker.
    • Freeze's plan: put one vial in the safe and use this as leverage. Take the other vial and break it in front of Batman. Say that he must go and get Nora now, so he can return and get the cure. Batman may die before doing this, by which point Freeze will have removed Batman from the equation and can take the remaining vial to Joker in exchange for Nora (stupidly assuming Joker would honour this).
    • The plan fails. Batman says this is "no time to negotiate" and marches towards the safe. Freeze realises the plan will not work, and decides to face Batman head on. If he kills him now, he still has the backup plan of exchanging the remaining cure vial for Nora.
    • Batman defeats Freeze, and Freeze, left defeated and embarrassed lying on the floor, watches as Batman opens the safe. Now helpless, he begs to Batman's empathy to "please, find Nora. She's all I have left."
    • The whole mess let Harley break in to the safe and steal the only remaining vial. Freeze, with a sense of guilt for his actions, implores Batman to face Joker now. With a renewed sense of cooperation between the two ("he will pay for what he has done to us"), Freeze offers help how he can with the Freeze Grenades.

It's messy, and a bit poorly executed, but I think the writers were going for the fragile alliance thing and just hurtled through a lot of this characterisation quite quickly. Still love Freeze in all these games tho.

L.A. Noire-styled detective work in the new Arkham game would be so sick

    Posted: 06 May 2020 08:03 PM PDT

I always felt the detective portions of the Arkham games held your hand far too much, and didn't really let you put the picture together in your head without batman narrating his thoughts. An L.A. Noire-styled detective mode that didn't rely much on technology but on raw skill and putting pieces together would be a dream come true. Either way I'm still really excited about this new game!! Just hope it let's the player feel like the world's greatest detective.

I was going to wait till I got all 4 but I'm impatient.

It's so weird how people say the Arkham games got worse because they went open world.

    Posted: 06 May 2020 06:08 PM PDT

Like no they didn't. Arkham Asylum is amazing but you can't do that for 4 games in a row. Batman lives in Gotham City. So of course games about Batman were going to go open world.

Most Wanted Concept - What Dies Beneath

    Posted: 07 May 2020 12:41 AM PDT

Context - Game set one year after Origins. Playable characters are Batman and Dick as Robin

Trigger : While patrolling the city,Batman hears over the police radio that a butchered body has washed up on the shores of Gotham Bay .

Batman investigates the mulititated body using the Deep Tissue Scanner and discovers the wounds match those inflicted by a killer whale, not a shark as he originally assumed . As killer whales have not been in Gotham waters for decades,Batman decides to open a case file .

Later on in the game, another body washes up on the shore. Batman is able to identify both victims as employees of the Gotham Aquarium .

Arriving at the seaside aquarium,Batman and Robin investigate the offices and learn that Grace Ballard,a marine biologist had been fired for her experimenting with DNA splicing to fix spinal cord injuries .

Batman notes Ballard dropped off the grid and hasn't been seen for months before Ballard(mutated into a humanoid Orca) rises out of a nearby tank and seizes Robin

A quick time event must be performed to free Robin from Orca who then escapes the tank and jumps into the bay to swim away.

Batman notes they will need to use their aquatic gear to apprehend Orca and has Alfred sent over an air drop

The final stage of the mission involves Batman and Robin diving underwater to find Orca. This section is very eerie and tense and ends with them coming across an old shipwreck where Orca suddenly attacks them

This begins an epic underwater battle with the villainess which ends with all three resurfacing and continuing their fight on the beach . Orca eventually grabs Batman and is set to kill him when Robin uses a Freeze Bomb to briefly incapacitate her.

This begins a prolonged Beat-Down inflicted on Orca by the two heroes until she is finally knocked unconscious.

Orca gets put in an isolation cell at GCPD while her lab equipment is put in the evidence room

This might sound stupid to some people but I was wondering if anyone knew why the joker looks different in some trailers of Arkham City and other things I've seen

    Arkham Knight True Ending

    Posted: 06 May 2020 10:15 PM PDT

Since the penguin cache leads to the last riddler trophy I need in Bleake island which is the last thing I need before I go finish the riddler side mission, If I do all the other side missions and complete more of the story, will it give me the locations for it or will I have to look for it myself? Also DOES IT GIVE ME A HEADS UP BEFORE I GO TO THE FINAL MISSION SO I CAN DO ALL THE LEFTOVER STUFF IN THE CITY? I'm at the part in the story where I just learned who the Arkham knight was and saved Barbara btw
