Arkham Knight is a far better experience if you already know who the Knight is

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 11:47 AM PST

I played Arkham Knight for the first time ever recently. Finished the game at 240% just under a week ago and loved every second of it.

Well, most seconds. The tank battles got very tedious by the end of the game. The Riddler races and militia APCs were brutal until I discovered the first person camera and then I found myself really enjoying them.

That's not the point of this post, though.

I went into Arkham Knight four years after its release, so I missed the atrocious PC launch and Rocksteady lying about who the Arkham Knight is. I had seen a video about the most predictable plot twists in video games, or something like that, and topping the list was the reveal of Jason Todd as the Arkham Knight, so that's how I found out.

I mean, it's basically given away by the flashbacks at Panessa Studios and you're expected to be surprised when the reveal comes? If I didn't already know who the Arkham Knight is, I would have been very disappointed.

But I did know, so the flashbacks took on a whole new narrative purpose. They became a backstory rather than a tease. They were integrated into the story at the perfect time, too. You team up with Tim to take down Harley Quinn, and eventually Joker makes a throwaway line about how "This Robin is so much better than the last one. Remember Jason Todd?" and that culminates in Batman locking Tim up to prevent anything like what happened to Jason from happening again.

The reason behind the Knight's anger becomes clear. He's in so much pain because he believes he was betrayed and thrown aside by someone he loved, trusted, looked up to.

I didn't have the experience of trying to mesh the flashbacks with Rocksteady claiming that the Knight is "CoMpLeTeLy oRiGiNaL." I saw Batman struggling with his own guilt and fear and then coming face to face with someone he failed to save, who wanted him dead because of that failure.

As a PC gamer playing through Origins for the first time...

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 05:31 PM PST

I love how Origins is the only game to have an unlocked FPS right off the bat (hehe), without any sort of tweaks needed. Arkham Knight is still my favorite, but the voice acting and cutscene animation so far is outstanding. Not the best Arkham game, but as fun as any other. As much as we all love Rocksteady here, and as much as they created most of the assets and playstyle for Origins, Batman is a character owned by DC and more than just Rocksteady can do him justice.

EDIT: AND Grapnel boost by default, love that. Knight was the first game I played in the series, and not having grapnel boost at all in Asylum, and not at the beginning of City was very annoying.

What I want in the next Batman Arkham Game

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 09:47 AM PST

THIS IS MY OWN PERSONAL OPINION

In the past arkham games we have gotten a lot of things. But there are some other things that I want from the next Arkham Game. One thing that I would want is a

-Day/Night cycle. Like in some free roam video games it turns from Day to Night on its own and doesn't happen based on a level or area. On its own it turns from day to night and that would be amazing in an Arkham Game.

-Populated Gotham City. Also, In other video games there are populated places. In the Arkham games they give us reasons why there isn't any population. But there should be some population

-Ability to travel to Batcave and Wayne Manor. I think that the community would really want to Go to the Batcave and do stuff in the Batcave (Not in Challenge maps. In the actual game). I know Arkham Origins did this put there was a limit to what we could do. And in none of the Arkham games we could go to Wayne Manor (Besides Challenge Maps) So it would really be fun if we could do those things

    • Going along with going to Wayne Manor, I would want the ability to Play as Bruce Wayne and not just Batman. I would want to do things that Batman wouldn't do and only Bruce Wayne could do. That would be very amazing

    • And lastly the last thing I would want in an Arkham game is. 2 things, 1. To play as the Batfamily 2. Use more of The Bat Vehicles. In Arkham Knight we did play as the Batfamily but only in Certain areas and only in challenge maps. I'm sure that the community would want to Free Roam as Nightwing or Robin. And next we don't just want to use the Batmobile. We want to use the Batwing or the Batcycle.

Those are the things that I would want in the new arkham games

New mechanics you’d wish for the next game?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 12:41 PM PST

For example, when you drop into a crowd of thugs by surprise, it would be pretty cool if there was a random chance of some or all of them just running away from you. It could be a tad unrealistic that they're always either brave enough or foolish enough to run straight at you. There's bound to be some too afraid to stick around.

What are some ideas of yours?
